What is a Flash Drive Used For?
If your use of computers goes anywhere beyond entertainment, you will find that there are plenty of reasons for you to take a look at flash drives. Flash drives are essentially devices that give you access to portable memory; they can provide you with storage for your data and you will find that when you are looking to make sure that you can get your data from one place to another, they will be able to help you. If you have interest in making sure that your data gets to where it is going without any problems, you will find that taking a look at a flash drive and knowing what you can do with it is essential to making sure you can get to your data whenever and wherever you may need it.
The first point to know is that a flash drive gives you a non-volatile source of memory. This means that your information can be maintained as it is, in the condition in which you put it onto the drive, without needing to be plugged in to a mains power supply. You will find that this ability to maintain your information independently of any power source can be very important, especially when you are trying to make sure your data is safe from any problems that might occur at your central location, whether that is at home or at the office. This can go a long way towards making sure that your data is safe.
There are many great uses for a flash drive.
Firstly, you will find that it is the ideal way to move files around and given the fact that the flash drive is rewritable in a way that a CD or DVD is not, you will find this is a lot more convenient and generates less waste.
Secondly you will find that some software is designed so that it can be run exclusively from a flash USB drive. This means that you can essentially carry your computer environment around with you. This then enables you to extract Firefox, Open Office and many more programs right from your drive and not have to download them onto your new computer.
Similarly, if you find that you often need to test computers and to put them through their paces, then a USB flash drive can easily let you store the diagnostic tools that you need to keep on hand. This makes it much easier to transport your tools from one computer to another, which will save you a great deal of time as well.
You will also find that if you are so inclined that you can boot your computer from the BIOS that are stored on the flash drive. This means that to boot from your flash drive, you will put your computer in front of your hard drive in order of sequence and then put an operating system on your USB.
In many ways, having a USB flash drive can make your life a great deal simpler. Take some time to figure out what these devices can do for you today!
Computers Have Evolved a Great Deal
A few years ago, we would have never thought that a computer would look so sleek and sophisticated. There is one interesting thing that you need to note about computers. While it was initially launched, it took several years to evolve. But in the 1990s and especially in the new millennium, there has been a great deal of evolution in its design as well as its performance.
Today computers are changing so fast, that by the time we buy one, and there is an advanced model in the market. Everyone is depending on computers today to work as well as for entertainment. If you go to an office or a home, you will find that all the information is stored in a computer. If the entire world’s computers were destroyed, it would leave many people without information.
No one can operate any business, or personal activities without the help of a computer. From communication to storing photographs, computers are used. Is this a good thing or not? Of course in many ways, the use of the computers has made life so easy for us. It is less complicated, and there is no need to keep bunching up boxes of information.
But it also has its dark side. This is the complete change in social life that it has created among most people, from the young to the old. As it also serves as a form of entertainment, no one seems to want to leave these creatures alone. There are various brands of computers available at various prices, and today a common man can afford to buy a laptop. Such has been the evolution of computers.
If the world has to live without computers today, many organizations and individuals would become handicapped. Computers have become an integral part of our daily lives.
How To Find The Windows Vista Menu Bar
Getting used to a new operating system is always hard, but there are many little tips and tricks that you can learn along the way to make the transition much easier.
One of the tools available in Windows that I use all the time is the Menu Bar. This is the bar across the top of most program windows that includes items like; File, Edit, View, Tools, Insert, Help, etc. The “Tools” menu is especially helpful when I want to change the settings for a program or window.
Let me give you a quick example:
When I am hunting for a file, it is not always visible with the default windows settings, so I have to be able to view hidden files. To turn these hidden files on, I click on “Tools” in the menu bar, then click on “Folder Options” and then click on the “View” tab in the folder options window. On the View page, I can quickly scroll down and click on “Show hidden files and folders”, then I click the “OK” button to save my changes. Once I have followed these steps, it is much easier to find the file that I am hunting for, especially if it is a hidden system file. Once I have found my file, I can quickly go back and follow the steps above to turn off the hidden files by clicking on “Do not show hidden files or folders”.
In Windows Vista, the menu bar is not visible in most windows. I find the loss of these menu bars very frustrating because I am always changing settings using those menus. If you are reading this article on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Vista, check it out; click on “Start”, then click on “Documents” you will see the contents of your documents folder, but unless you have turned on the menu bars, you will not see them. I cannot tell you how many times I was stumped by the absence of these menu bars when I first started using Windows Vista computers!
Today, however, I have good news for you! If you are working on a computer that is running Vista, and you need to make a change or two that you know you used to be able to find in the menu bar, you can make the menu bar temporarily visible in Vista just by tapping the “Alt” key on your keyboard!
If you are using Vista, try it now by following these steps;
1. Open a window by clicking on the “Start” orb (new name for the round buttons in Vista and Office 2007″ and then click on “Documents” in the right hand side of the start menu.
2. Your documents window will open. You will notice that there is no menu bar showing though.
3. Now, tap the “Alt” key on your keyboard just once. The menu bar will appear near the top of the window. It will stay visible until you use it, or until you tap the “Alt” key again.
I can’t begin to tell you how much time this little trick has saved me when I am using or working on computers!
